What to look forward to
To celebrate the end of the current volume, we decided to go all out and do an ocean themed issue – partly because we’re dreaming of going to the beach for a holiday after lockdown is over! You can join Ant as she takes a stroll along the gorgeous South African shores to search for spectacular shells and the animals that live inside them. From mussels to oysters, and abalones to conchs, there’s so much to learn about the tiny animals that call these shells home. And, if you find any spectacular shells on your next visit to the beach, follow our Eco Craft steps to turn them into a rad shell necklace that you can wear as a keepsake.
If you love the sea as much as Iain Campbell, then you may consider becoming a professional bodyboarder just like him! Our interview with Iain breaks down exactly what you need to do to become a World Champion Bodyboarder. And don’t forget to brush up on your facts about the ukulele. Did you know that ukulele means ‘jumping flea’ in Hawaiian? How rad!
We can all appreciate just how beautiful our local beaches are and awesome it is to spend time in the ocean. So, discovering more and more trash on our beaches and more and more plastic in our oceans is really sad! Beaches and the ocean play an essential role in the environment, so it is important for us to protect them. Luckily, there are some awesome student inventors that are helping to clean up our oceans and help our planet! Don’t miss these awesome eco-cleanup inventions, and how you can help protect our oceans.
And more great stuff!
Supernova is all about showing our readers some of the best spots in South Africa, as well as the rest of our planet! Here’s your chance to think like an archaeologist as you go deep underground and millions of years into the past on a journey to the Sterkfontein Caves. And, if you’ve ever heard about the 7 Wonders of the World, then you might have heard of the 7 Wonders of Nature! Check out our Photo Feed for beautiful shots of our world’s most wonderful natural places.

The Supernova team is a sucker for cute pets, so we couldn’t help including a Supernova Pet Guide in the new mag. We break down exactly what you need to know to take the best care of your pet. Find awesome facts about dogs, cats, birds, fish, snakes, hamsters, spiders, mice, scorpions, and even hissing cockroaches! Most importantly, make sure you know where your pet comes from. You don’t want to unknowingly help support the exotic animal trade!
We close off the last issue of Volume 9 with some other awesome articles! Read an insightful article into ‘shrinkflation’ and paying more for less. Keep busy with more awesome Schoolyard Games. And put your Brain Game skills to the test with some Super Sudoku!
